Colourfully painted containers make “Trip around the World”
January 25, 2010
Have you spotted one yet? If you haven’t keep your eyes peeled. Over the next two years, ten uniquely painted containers will wind their way through Maersk Line’s global network as part of the ”Trip around the World” art project.
Some of these colourful containers have already been spotted in such far-flung locations as Singapore, Mombasa, Lagos and Algeciras – so who’s to say your city won’t be next?
Ten individualised containers “Trip around the World” is an art container project comprising ten, twenty-foot refrigerated containers (reefers) supplied by Maersk Line. Each container has been given its own individual makeover by child artists from various schools, charities and youth organisations in Rotterdam, The Netherlands.
“It really is a unique and extraordinary project,” says Lisette Ketting, Communication Coordinator at Maersk Line in Rotterdam and a member of the team that sponsored the event as part of the “Year of the Youth” project.
A lot of fun for everyone The painting itself took place during “World Port Days”, held on 5 and 6 September 2009, and Ms. Ketting says her team has received nothing but positive feedback from the children involved and the general public. “It was a lot of fun for everyone,” she says.
By the end of September, the colourful containers had all departed Rotterdam on the first legs of their round-the-world journeys, and the project’s organisers are now encouraging eagle-eyed spotters to capture all container sightings on camera.
If you do catch sight of one, you can submit your pictures to the project website,
