On a large, six-meter display screen, the operator zooms in to a red dot in a position just off the northwest coast of Spain. The red dot in question is the vessel Emma Maersk and she is running on time.
From this position, the operator can not only monitor Emma Maersk’s current performance, but also her past schedule reliability performance, her speed and her bunker consumption.
But this vessel overview capability is only a fraction of what the SITROOM concept offers. In December last year Maersk Line launched its global SITROOM at headquarters in Copenhagen, Denmark, providing the Operations team with an easy overview of the entire Maersk Line fleet and its performance.
Regional coverage, on-time visibility
In April, the first mini-SITROOM was switched on at the headquarters of the West Central Asia Liner Operations Cluster in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.
The UAE-based Operations team is the first of Maersk Line’s eight local Operations stations to start running a SITROOM. The regional coverage afforded by having such a capability ensures the local Operations crew is able to react quickly to situations that could impact Maersk Line’s ability to deliver on-time or which threaten the safety and security of our assets and crews, and our customers’ cargo.
This region contains many of the world’s hotspots: the piracy zone in the Gulf of Aden and the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, as well as some political instability in the region.
It is therefore essential that Maersk Line has a local, clear picture of vessels’ locations and accurate information on their schedule reliability as well as instant awareness of the issues breaking locally. The SITROOM, with its real-time link to the central Operations portal in Copenhagen, Denmark, will provide that.
Local overview, global reliability
By the end of August, all eight Liner Operations Clusters will be equipped with a mini-SITROOM. This local overview, aligned to a connection to the global platform, will further improve Maersk Line’s industry leading ability to deliver on-time thereby upholding our commitments to customers.

The SITROOM concept takes advantage of the latest in presentation and information-sharing technology, and provides clarity and visibility on operations execution such vessel speed, schedule reliability performance, and bunker consumption.
All necessary information is gathered and presented on a six-metre display giving the operator an all-seeing eye into Maersk Line operations.
