As part of the rate restoration program announced end of 2009 on the Atlantic Trades, Maersk Line would like to re-announce implementation of General Rate Increases for the second half of 2010. This includes cargo moving in both directions between USA and Canada from/to Europe, the Mediterranean and Black Sea.
The increases will be USD 400 per 20' and USD 500 per 40' dry and reefer container as of 1st July. The USD amount of the October GRI will depend on the trading conditions in the second half of the year.
Based on the dynamic market conditions experienced so far in 2010 we are pleased to see a degree of stabilisation with partial freight rate recovery. However, Transatlantic trading conditions are still subject to unsatisfactory rate levels that has now been further aggravated by a general shortage of containers resulting in higher cost associated with positioning containers to where our customers need them for export. The situation remains unsustainable in the longer run. Rate increases are therefore necessary to continue to operate our services with the high level of reliability we wish to offer our customers.
Announcing these rate increases in advance will allow customers to plan their shipments with an understanding of the expected rate levels for the upcoming period.
The revisions are as follows:
North America to/from North Europe and Mediterranean:
1 July, 2010: USD 400 / 500 per 20’ / 40’
1 October, 2010: To be announced at a later date
