Maersk Line expands the requirements for information in the Shipping Instructions (SI)

Dear Valued Customer,

To avoid delays of shipments at load port and/or discharge port, it is required to provide complete and correct information for registration of data used throughout in the documentation of shipments to or via European Union member countries (EU).

As a consequence Maersk Line will expand upon the data required for shipment to or via EU.

Specifically, - it will be required to submit as mandatory data in the Shipping Instructions (SI):

-    Valid WCO HS code* – 4 or 6 digit

Effective September 2nd, 2012 Maersk Line will not process SI’s without the submission of appropriate HS code for each item shipped.

To draw attention to the requirements, starting July 1st, we will inform our shippers if/when the SI does not live up to the standards for proper documentation.

The HS code information is in addition to all other relevant information required to process the shipment. In this connection it may be appropriate to particularly draw the attention to the importance of shipper and consignee details, without which manifest submissions may be rejected in EU:

-  Shipper and Consignee (Alternatively Notify Party) information with minimum the following data:

  • Company/Entity name
  • Street Address
  • Zip code
  • City
  • Country

We trust that you will appreciate the advantage of this initiative, - ensuring that the submissions are done correctly the first time facilitating the dispatch of the shipment as planned.

We thank you for your business and strive to be your reliable, stable and competent partner. We look forward to continually serving your global transportation needs.

Kind Regards,

Maersk Line
