Update of Tropical Storm Kai-Tak

Typhoon Kai-tak has made landfall in the vicinity of Zhanjiang. At 17/1600 local time, typhoon Kai-tak was centred about 510 km west-southwest of Hong Kong and is skirting the coast of Guangxi and moving in the general direction of northern Vietnam.

With typhoon Kai-tak continues to move away from Hong Kong & PRD area, below ports are impacted with details below:

Yantian (East Shenzhen): Typhoon signal “Blue” was lowered to “White” at 17/1030. Pilot was resumed at 17/1600.

Chiwan/Shekou (West Shenzhen): Typhoon signal “Blue” was lowered to “White” at 17/1030. Pilot was resumed at 17/1500. Nil impact to ML as we don’t have vessels there.

Nansha (Guangzhou): Typhoon signal no. 3 was lowered to “No.2” at 17/1545. Pilot service is not resumed yet, and best estimation it will only be resumed at 17/2100.

At 17/1100 local time, Typhoon Kai-tak was estimated to be about 380 km west-southwest of Hong Kong and is forecast to move west-northwest towards Leizhou Peninsula.

Severe Tropical Storm Kai-tak has intensified into a typhoon. At 16/0900 local time, Kai-tak was estimated to be about 450 kilometres southeast of Hong Kong and is forecast to move west-northwest towards the coast of western Guangdong.

With typhoon Kai-tak is closer and closer, below ports are impacted with details below:

Yantian (East Shenzhen): Typhoon signal “Blue” was hoisted at 16/0550 and inbound pilot was suspended from 16/0630. Outbound pilot will be suspended from 16/1400 and all vessels must be off the dock for sheltering. Terminal will be closed at the same time.

At 15/1600, Tropical Storm Kai-tak was centred about 490 kilometres east-southeast of Dongsha. It is forecast to move west-northwest, entering the northern part of the South China Sea and intensifying gradually.

Yantian: Typhoon signal “White” was hoisted at 15/0900. Operations is normal now but expected inbound pilot will be suspended at 16/Aug morning/afternoon.

Under influence of Tropical Depression Kai-Tak, PRS barge service will be suspended or ceased in some locations:-

Shantou's barge service is affected.

On Thu, Aug 16's barge to YAT/HKG will be affected and may be delayed.

On Sat, Aug 18's barge to YAT/HKG will be cancelled.

Tropical Depression Kai-Tak is near 17.0 N, 128.0 E with a maximum sustained wind of about 55 km/h near centre at 08:00 HKT on 13 August 2012. No schedule or service adjustments has been made at this moment.
