Debtor code finder

Issue

We avail of the speedcollect service from CITIBANK Peru whereby we can identify whenever a customer has made a payment. Such identification is facilitated by a unique debtor code that is managed by us. However, the maximum length of this code can extend to only 6 digits, which makes it difficult to identify it by means of a bill of lading (B/L) number, or invoice number or *RUC number of the customer.

Customer Pain Point

This unique debtor code has been issued manually to customers on demand. Since customers cannot reach us apart from over telephone or email and have to depend upon us for response, they are often delayed in receiving the debtor code and cannot make their payments into our CITIBANK account. Some complaints from aggrieved customers regarding late payments are justified on account of slow response times from our end.

Our company website does not offer any solution whereby customers can avail of the debtor code immediately on request since the issue is local in scope.

Benefits

Keeping our customers’ dissatisfaction in mind, we would now like to solve this problem of delayed response time by providing customers with an online tool that is reliable, easy to use and captures information regarding the shipment for which payment is being made. Since this tool will be readily available online, customers will no longer need to check their emails for a link to request the debtor code or call us for the same.

This in turn will also reduce the number of payments made using a general code which is difficult for the bank to reconcile and leads to reconciliation errors.

*RUC is like VAT number for Peruvian companies inside of Peru

About system

  • This initiative is supported in an excel spreadsheet that contains RUC number, name of the customer and debtor code. None of this information is linked to Maersk systems.
  • The information of the spreadsheet will be linked to the information of the account statement that is provided by the bank in order we can identify payments.

About Legal

  • SpeedCollect is a service from CITIBANK where customer indicates to the bank the code we indicate to them, in this case the application will show existing codes to customers, and will create new codes for new customers and will inform us about the updates. This ensures that the information provided by CITIBANK will be the same we handle and inform to customer.
  • Codes are strictly linked to RUC number of customer that means that while customer provides their correct number, they will have only one debtor code that will be provided by this tool. There is not going to be two codes for the same RUC number.  This ensures that while the client indicates the correct information, we will give them the correct code.
  • Regarding to payment information, only debtor code will be provide, because it is the only information we are sure will be automatically update. Others like bank account number, or swift codes or others, won’t be provided due to the inherent risks of manual updates. We want to avoid providing wrong payment information to customer.
  • If it is needed a modification that this debtor code only works for Perú will be included.
  • I accept to quit all the rights that I could have with this domain in order to give them to Maersk, so I will access to follow any procedure requested to me in order to deliver the domain without additional charges from my part, this way we will make sure that there will not be no future demands from my part for using this site.
