Introduction

The history of Maersk Portugal Lda. is rich in developments and achievements. Starting little more than 10 years ago, Maersk Line opened its office with 4 people and by June 1991 there were already 7 people working with us. One year later, Maersk Line opened an office in Leixoes (northern part of Portugal) with 4 people working there. This brought a major change in Maersk Portugal Lda, adding an extra vessel call to the existing rotation Algeciras - Lisbon fortnightly. In 1992, the new rotation became Algeciras - Leixoes - Lisbon with the MAERSK EURO DECIMO vessel on a weekly basis.

Year by year our volumes and presence in the Portuguese market increased and by 1997 we started the new direct service between Portugal and Luanda (Angola). The new direct service reflected the growth of Maersk Portugal Lda. in the past years and now we have a 1,200 TEU vessel calling Lisbon. Since 2001 we have been located in the newest part of Lisbon (Parque das Nacoes). Today, Maersk Portugal Lda. is going through new exciting developments, never forgetting our constant care to all our customers. New services to Angola & Cape Verde have been iniciated during 2009 further enhancing our service level and opportunities for the Portuguese companies strongly stating our local commitment.
