History of Maersk Line in Belgium
Maersk Belgium, a member of the A.P. Moller - Maersk Group was established in 1980 to act as general agent for Maersk Line, connecting Antwerp with the Far East. This fortnightly service soon became weekly and was the beginning of an extensive service network out of Antwerp.

In May 1905 the Svendborg was the first Maersk vessel to call a Belgian port (Ghent). Moreover the Svendborg was the first vessel in the Maersk fleet.

In 1995 it was decided to merge Maersk Belgium and Maersk Netherlands into Maersk Benelux.

After the acquisition of Sea-Land Inc. (late 1999) by A.P. Moller-Maersk group, Maersk Benelux acted as an agent of Maersk Line.
In 2005 the A.P. Moller - Maerk Group aqcuired Royal P&O Nedlloyd and effective February 2006 Maersk Benelux acts as agent for Maersk Line.
