The A.P. Moller - Maersk Group

It all began in 1904

In 1904, 28 year old Arnold Peter Moller together with his father, Captain Peter Maersk Moller, established 'A/S Dampskibsselskabet Svendborg' and bought a second hand steamer of 2,200 tons deadweight. The company had its first office in A.P. Moller's childhood home, 'Villa Anna', in Svendborg, Denmark. Eight years later, A.P. Moller established 'Dampskibsselskabet af 1912 A/S'. These two companies were to form the nucleus of the A.P. Moller – Maersk Group. In 2003 the two companies were merged under the name of 'A.P. Moller – Maersk A/S'.

Upon the death of his father in 1965, Maersk Mc-Kinney Moller assumed the leadership of the A.P. Moller – Maersk Group which, thanks to initiative and foresight, has developed into a major international enterprise. The A.P. Moller - Maersk Group, whose headquarters are at Esplanaden, Copenhagen, has more than 60.000 employees in more than 125 countries around the world. The A.P. Moller - Maersk fleet comprises about 470 vessels with a total deadweight of 18,000,000 tons. The fleet includes container vessels, tankers, car carriers, supply ships, special vessels and drilling rigs. Besides shipping, A.P. Moller - Maersk is engaged in logistics, terminal operation and management, exploration for and production of oil and gas, shipbuilding, aviation, industry, retail and IT services.
