The United Republic of Tanzania lies just south of the Equator. Washed by the Indian ocean to the east, Tanzania neighbours are Kenya and Uganda to the north, Rwanda, Burundi and the Democratic Republic of Congo to the west, and Zambia, Malawi and Mozambique to the South. For most of these states Tanzania is the gateway to the world via Dar es Salaam, Tanga and Mtwara which are the country's ocean ports competent to handle the region's exports and imports. English is the official language while Swahili is the national language. Agriculture is the foundation of Tanzania's economy, supporting employment, food production and exports.
